Quiet Community Undergoing Renovations

The unit was vacated at the end of May, the 28th. I had to wait over one week to move in until June 8. Therefore, I was homeless during that time...living in a hotel. Island Club didn't even have a model to show me. I had to view a completely different unit style just to get a feel for the one that I was waiting on. They showed 2 pictures of the unit (partial downstairs shots only#, which didn't help at all. Apparently, at least according to Heather #leasing agent#, people rent these units site unseen based on previous experience and word-of-mouth. However, that has never and will never be my mentality. Not only do I want to see the unit, I want to see the unit that I will be living in!!! Therefore, I was anxious and upset that I couldn't adequately prepare for my new place regarding decorations, prospective moving problems, etc. I'd visited the unit to take pictures through the windows to whet my appetitie before June 8. I noticed a satelite dish in front #I didn't see the additional one on the side# on the roof and figured that it would be removed--NOT! Of course, there were problems when I finally did see it on June 7 #after calling to ask if it was ready or if I could at least see it--far be it to expect that they were proactive# because the stairway is so narrow it's hard to get furnishings upstairs. In addition, one of the recessed lights was missing and had exposed wiring that needed to be fixed. Other than that cursory overview, it looked decent but definitely not worth the rent! I also asked for a copy of the lease agreement to review prior to June 8. Apparently, John #manager) thinks that attorneys are willing to visit apartment leasing offices just to read lease agreements and addendums based on his suggestion and his refusal to provide a copy of the documents...and I might copy them for my nonexistent rental property and not knowing how to print a copy...pretty much every excuse he could think of to make my experience a tad more inconvenient! He called a superior to find out if it was okay and how to print it. Classic! John's mission is obviously to make tenant's life as difficult as possible for even the most simple requests. Obviously, their other tenants simply sign documents without reading them first! Be aware, there are SEVERAL addendums that they don't enforce. I had to complain about the satelite dishes not being removed prior to me moving in since they had more than enough time to prepare the unit AND they make tenants sign a satelite addendum, whicn states that it be removed when the tenant vacates the property! Therefore, I'd be living in a pseudo trailer park looking unit had I not complained. I also enjoyed watching a fellow neighbor in my building walk to the side of my unit and allow his dog to use it as his personal bathroom several times. Of course, there is also a pet addendum that specifies designated pet areas, which didn't include the side of tenant's patios! Heather informed me that the patios are being replaced. Apparently the renovations will happen 7 days a week! There was a nice truck with a trailer setting in front of my unit when I returned home Saturday night. In addition, the banging and power tool sounds Sunday morning was refreshing as well! I tried to provide substantive feedback. All in all, I guess it's a decent place..the jury is still out!
