The Truth About This Place

I moved in here in mid-October 2013 thinking it looked nice and it was worth the cost of rent, and boy was I disappointed! The place had more problems than I would have expected for a 20-year-old apartment complex that appeared so nicely kept. From day one, I had maintenance issues like crazy, and it took the maintenance crew FOREVER to fix most of them. It took them two weeks to get a new shower rod when mine collapsed, several weeks before they fixed a leak in the bathroom, and NINE TRIES OVER 3 OR 4 MONTHS before they fixed my broken water heater, on the eighth of which my apartment flooded and the one decent fellow working on the maintenance crew put me in the corporate suite after I called in an emergency. I had other issues sometime around April or May of 2014 that didn't get fixed until late September, including a collapsed bedroom door and damage to the microwave. Also, I got sprayed by one of the sprinklers on the lawn coming out of my apartment once, and when I asked the lady in the front office if they could move it or angle it differently so that it wouldn't spray in my direction when it turned, she said "They're all automated on a timer system, so we would have to turn all them off to be able to move one of them. Sorry!". Half the time, I would see the sprinklers dumping water into the street or onto the sidewalks instead of on the grass. Also, even though this can happen anywhere in Florida, I was particularly astonished to find a few cockroaches in my apartment. I have no idea how often they have exterminators come around, but this was one more turn off, and it surprised me. And the apartment complex is right next to the local elementary school, so on one hand it's nice to be able to have your kid walk to school (if you have one), but on the other hand if you try to come back to the apartment right around when school is letting out, you have to deal with cars just sitting and waiting for a half hour to an hour on Patronis Dr. from the school all the way to Thomas Dr. Also, I had a ridiculously high electric bill during the summer months even though I tried to keep lights shut off and everything. I don't know if it was just the air conditioning; my apartment was a lofted upstairs one with a high vaulted ceiling, but I had something similar once and I don't think it cost that much money to air condition it. Something was probably wrong.

In short, it was a royal pain having to deal with most of the folks here, and although I understand they've changed their maintenance staff and tried to improve, I would caution anyone considering this place to think beforehand, as it would be at best a gamble. It's nice at Arium Grand Lagoon having your own washer and dryer, a built-in microwave, and a generous living room, but I think you can easily deal without all of that. I met people at Arium who moved in after me and were already thinking about leaving a month or two later. I left a little more than a year after moving in, and I can confidently say I would never go back again!
