Rent here as a last resort

I moved here due to an emergency situation and I was desperate to find a place with a low move-in deposit. The property management changed about 2 months after moving in, to Maysonet Group LLC, and they constantly harass tenants.

I had a 3-day eviction notice posted to my door a few weeks after they took over. The notice was for "unpaid" rent that I never owed. After providing them with my money order receipt, they insisted that the fictitious past due amount was for a month previous to that, so I presented them with all of my money order receipts before they finally backed down. It's a good thing I had all of my money order receipts available.

A week later, they demanded everyone sign an addendum to their lease stating that each resident would be charged a $25 fee for each trash bag that didn't make it into the dumpster (bags that had fallen to the side or out of the dumpster). I refused to sign it. The dumpster was getting full and running over and trash was falling out and huge flies were always swarming. There was no way for them to monitor whose trash was on the ground and it is management's responsibility to make sure that tenants have a place to throw away trash and if it is overflowing, it's no fault of the tenants.

There was a very rude young girl that was part of the Maysonet team and she would literally pound on resident's doors to deliver letters. Thank God she is now gone.

They have also tried to violate tenants lease agreements by sending out letters stating that after the 3rd of the month, if the rent has not been received, a $100 late fee will be tacked onto the regular months rent. The tenants that signed leases with the previous management state rent must be paid by the 4th, or a $75 late fee will be incurred. This is illegal b/c the original lease can not be modified by new management until the original lease time is up.

The rent is cheap and the quality is sub-par. The utilities are not included, you pay for water, so you may be better off paying a little more in rent somewhere else and getting a better apt in exchange for free water.

Pet fees are $300 per pet, ridiculous...other apts may charge this high but it's usually the luxury apts that do. All floors here are tile so a high pet fee doesn't make much sense.

I tried to get Verizon cable and phone services and was told by Verizon they did not service this area. Huh? They try to refer you to DISH....crazy. Verizon could not bring me internet or phone service b/c they said someone had ripped out the lines and cables and they would have to run a new line across the street and rewire the whole building...and I would have to pay for it. Again...Huh?

There are NO amenities, just 2 washers and 2 dryers. No pool, clubhouse, lobby, free internet, playground, tennis, BBQ area, etc...NOTHING.. I have no counter space in kitchen...just a small section on both sides of sink to stack dishes.

The water deposit was over $300 and the electric was $396. The monthly utilities are high, even the water, for some reason, even though the apts are small. So I would keep looking and not move here unless it is a last resort. There are nicer apts for cheap, I just didn't have a lot of move-in money when I needed it so I am stuck here for a while.
