I've been renting from Mission at La Villita for the past 2 years. In 2014 the property was bought by Gaines Investment and since that time the quality of life has gone down the drain. High turnover in office staff, problems getting management to respond, understaffed maintenance, and overpriced units for the quality of apartments and amenities you get. I've heard complaints from my neighbors again and again since Gaines took over. I myself have experienced it. What really tipped the scale for me is the unwillingness to remedy a situation. And the first thing Gaines management always wants to say is that they were not responsible for something or that there was no negligence on their part. My AC/heating unit blew while I was away for the July 4th holiday and just starting running nonstop blowing hot air. Maintenance responded to my request when I submitted it but in the meantime I also received a very high electricity bill which management said they could do nothing about. They weren't negligent with anything I was told. And when I asked how often these cooling/heating units are checked the answer was when something like this happens and they have to replace it. Great! So instead of reimbursing me for what would be the tiniest amount for them (roughly $100 for the electricity the unit used up when it malfunctioned), they would rather get another bad review of their property and service.
