Reviews

disappointed

I am totally appalled, and my only recourse for my shock is to write a review about Westlake Meadows here on apartment ratings and everywhere else I can find to post this. I lived in my apartment at Westlake Meadows for 10 weeks after moving to the Portland area for a job relocation. I then earned a promotion requiring me to move home again, so I broke my lease at Westlake and dutifully paid the $1850 lease break fee in addition to my prorated rent. I enjoyed living there but never really "moved in" as the job was in question soon after the move. I never hung anything on the freshly painted walls, never moved any furniture onto the freshly cleaned carpets, was never in the apartment very much due to my 15 hour work days mostly 7 days a week. Not being home very much, it was scary that my heating bill was around $200 every month as well, I'm assuming due to old wiring and poor insulation. But other than that, I liked my townhouse and I really liked Andrew, the leasing agent. He is very professional and took care of anything I needed. This has nothing to do with him.
Been gone a month now and and just received my move out statement. I owe over $350 due to carpet cleaning and fresh paint! I never hung anything? For an apartment that was hardly lived in, this is grossly unacceptable. It's not the money, really, it's just the point.
I've been around the block and lived in a few apartment complexes and I'm a good renter. Timely rent payment, clean and tidy, always get a deposit BACK much less charged for painting walls that were freshly painted 10 weeks earlier?
I called and spoke to Jennifer who stated she was sorry, it does seem silly, but "that's the company policy." I guess anyone who lives there less than two years pays these fees upon move out whether you're there 10 months or 10 weeks. She couldn't have cared less and was unwilling to further discuss it. This is all I can say, I'm so glad I moved. What if I had actually decided to settle in and hang a few pictures and buy a couch and LIVE there? Would I have racked up further charges for nail holes in the walls, general wear and tear due to living in a space? PLEASE think twice about Westlake Meadows..I was so shocked when I got this letter I was at a loss for words.
