Reviews

Rude, unaccommodating, unsafe, and run-down.

We have lived here for two years now. During that time we have had two main instances of maintenance repeatedly ignoring or improperly fixing water issues which led to major damage and mold issues in which the repair jobs took several days and severely inconvenienced our family. During both instances, the apartment office was rude, unaccommodating, and refused to even reimburse us for inconvenience and the additional electricity costs used by running their equipment for several days at a time (not being able to take a shower, our bathroom being over 100 degrees in temperature due to their machinery, our living room in total chaos while they repaired the drywall in the closet living room closet, no dishwasher), once even threatening my husband that if he did not let the men come and work at that exact time (while my daughter was taking a nap; we had been expecting someone all morning, and nobody showed up to begin work until 2pm), we would have to pay for the repairs ourselves. Aside from these two events, we have had a largely negative experience with maintenance, who usually shows up at naptime, despite my continuous requests against it (in my experience, they only work between the hours of 12 and 3pm), and who very rarely do a quality job (my husband is in maintenance professionally and rarely has anything good to say). Meanwhile, we can confirm all the other complaints on here about thefts (our bike was stolen from our back patio because the apartment office requested me to remove it from the front of the building where I had it chained up), children playing in the streets and at all hours of the day and night, noisy neighbors (not just music, but we also frequently hear arguments and even gun shots on weekends), cat and insect infestations, etc, not to mention pesky door to door solicitors who trample my plants every spring and summer. Additionally, we have now had two different neighbors who smoked, and the walls are so poorly insulated that the smoke comes through the walls and aggravates my asthma and makes the clothes in our linen closet stink (which the office said they couldn't do anything about), and despite constant letters reminding residents to keep their patios and yards clean, the playgrounds are really run down, littered with trash and graffiti at all times of the year, and missing several safety bars; I have also repeatedly contacted the office and been ignored about removing a rusty steel bar in one of the open field areas where my daughter likes to play. They make a show of encouraging resident morale and feedback with a resident appreciation week every summer and feedback letters, but I can only conclude that it is an empty gesture. At this point we are literally only living here because we can't find somewhere with affordable prices in the area. The rent is very cheap. But that is the only good thing I have to say about the Orchards at Severn after two years.
